April.25.2026 A Diamond Celebration

Let's move into the present for a brief minute before we return to the Red Dump Truck and the Crayon Box. This year marks my Diamond Year....or so I am told.

As I understand it when your birth year lines up with your age it is a special year. So here we are... a celebration is in order.

In honor of such an auspicious year Imagine Fiber Arts is designing a special colorway. Something to celebrate this milestone. And so the process goes. We know it is going to be diamond-like so it needs to have some inner elegance and illumination. The colors of diamonds are variable yet soft from pink to yellow to blue to lavender to green. ...some even brown.

How to create illumination in yarn is a special task that requires some thought. And with a diamond as our inspiration the process will be complex. Everything from exact dye colors, depths of shade and tone will be considered. The actual dye process equally matters. How many layers. Do we want the colorway to lean warm or cool....or both~ simultaneously.

Which bases do we dye this colorway. Because bases matter. The cool shimmer of a silk blend reads much differently than the ephemeral brushed suri alpaca silk lace. And a pure superwash merino is vastly different than superwash merino/nylon blend when it takes color.

Should we include some non superwash in this colorway. The colorways will be more muted and softened by the yarn's structure. The light more absorbed and less reflective.

These questions will require sorting. First, we start with the natural base tone of the yarn which is warm and slightly creamy yellow. Do we wish to continue with this base tone or modify it through a toning process.

So now the design process begins in earnest and questions need to be answered. Some test runs completed to help us discern our basic questions before we proceed with an entire batch. And then we will dye up this beauty. At this point the only thing known is that she will be complex, simply elegant and a stunner. Because after all that is the entire point of a Diamond.💎
